LEEDS SPORTS AWARDS 2013
Following Olympic and Paralympic success it was only right that this year's 10th Leeds Sports Awards celebrated Leeds' golden athletes, coaches and volunteers in style ... and what style it was ! Hosted by Tanya Arnold, Elland Road welcomed over 500 guests for a night of glitz and glamour, as well as emotion and reflection as we looked back on the sporting accomplishments of 2012 (Click on the photo above for full event details).
Olympic duo Alistair Brownlee and Nicola Adams scooped Sportsman and Sportswomen of the Year respectively and Paralympic stars David Stone and Hannah Cockroft took the Disability Sportsman and Sportswoman Awards. Leeds Rhinos picked up Professional Club of the Year and thoroughly enjoyed the event, commenting 'These awards are brilliant and it's great that people like Nicola Adams and the Brownlees and all of us can come together.'
With 33 of the 37 finalists present it was a night of pride and inspiration with Adams commenting, 'These are the awards that mean the most to me. This is where I grew up and where my career was founded'.
Along with the cities' Olympic and Paralympic athletes, the Bad Thai Boxing Company were awarded non-professional Team of the Year, Leeds Divers and Swimmers were unsurprisingly no strangers to the stage and ex-Olympic gymnast and now coach Marjorie Carter rounded up the night with the heart-warming Lifetime Achievement Award.
The night would not have been possible without event sponsors Leeds City College, Est Display, Leeds Arena, Leeds Trinity University, Resource Print Solutions and West Yorkshire Sport.
